Seequent - Complex geotechnical stories
After working at Atlassian in Sydney, I traded the subtropics for the South Island of New Zealand and a geological modelling software company called ARANZGeo (soon to become) Seequent. The job was to create and share technical stories about and for the industries that used our tech: Mining, construction, geology, hydro, enviro-science, etc. My role was varied and involved stakeholder interviews with experts across the globe, with web and marketing stories as the output. I was heavily involved in the brand change to Seequent.

Stories about 3D mapping technology
ARANZGeo proved to be the opportunity of a lifetime. I got to write about complex technical processes and learn some big words like 'spectrophotometery' and 'liquefaction'. With access to experts, I used my content expertise alongside their science know-how to create compelling stories that customers and industry could relate to.

From software to solutions
The brand project that transformed ARANZGeo to Seequent was a 6-month intensive, involving multiple areas of the business: marketing, legal, product, and me in comms. With the Brand Manager, I was responsible for articulating the brand voice to match the new brand look and feel, and developing learning artefacts and assets for staff to adopt.
We went from a software company to a solutions company - and growth rapidly followed.

Stories that made an impact
In 2017/2018 the minority Rohingya were driven out of Myanmar and settled in makeshift camps in Bangladesh. Clean, drinkable water quickly became an issue for the health and survival of the refugees. Our software was used to help and I got to tell the story.

Data speaks: A branded storytelling event
I was fortunate to be invited to the RFG conference in Vancouver in 2018. Working with another science communicator, we conceptualised the 'data speaks' contest, to give a voice to young scientists trying to make a difference. The young speakers at the Resources for Future Generations conference were inspiring, and the competition was close. I am proud to have been part of the team to make this happen. Here's my write up.
